Since our foundation in 2013, the Red Rocks Initiatives for Sustainable Development has been committed to uplifting and empowering the communities living within the Virunga massif region of Rwanda, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Today, we’re excited to include you in our work in a new way. Our new blog will be our way of communicating with our supporters, alerting them to updates in our efforts, success, challenges, and more.

Our Mission and Vision

If you’re unfamiliar with our work, then it’s best for us to take the time to introduce you to our work.

Red Rocks Initiatives for Sustainable Development is a non-profit organization that works with the Virunga massif region. We offer programs and support for individuals and groups in order to help promote sustainable practices that protect the region’s natural and cultural resources. In response to the global warming crisis, we believe that by encouraging local communities to be the stewards and champions of the landscape, we can better care for our world.

Our vision is centered around integrating environmental conservation with sustainable tourism to create opportunities to build peace and stronger communities. In doing so, we hope to fulfill our mission of enhancing the standards of living of the local populations in the region by highlighting their talents, arts, music, and cultural diversity.

Our Programs and Projects

Seeing as we are working with a region full of diverse landscapes, people, and flora and fauna, it only makes sense to have a diverse range of programs and projects. At Red Rocks Initiatives, we work with communities to develop programs that enrich them, allowing them to take ownership of the program and project so that they can get the most benefit from them.

These programs include things like our green tourism program, which uses sustainable practices to welcome volunteers and visitors from abroad to take in the immense scenic wonder that is available in the Virunga massif region. We also host monthly community events that showcase the talents and cultural expressions of the communities in the region.

Our researcher projects collaborate with professionals, organizations, institutions, and student groups to develop more effective sustainable tourism, conservation, and community management practices. This helps the region create new economic opportunities for underserved individuals and groups while still caring for the natural resources around them.

Our Blog

Empowerment begins with education, so we believe that our blog page should serve as a resource for those who are interested in our work and our causes. We’ll update the page frequently with posts about updates in the sustainable tourism industry, as well as new developments in our community conservation programs. For those looking to volunteer abroad, you’ll find insights, tips, and tricks that make your travels easier and your experiences more rewarding. The Virunga massif region is immense and always changing. We’ll create posts that highlight some of the region’s natural and cultural resources, allowing you to better understand the impact our work has on the area.

We’re excited to share our work with you and invite you to support our cause through a generous donation.
